Our Lady of Humility School, Our Lady of Humility Parish, Zion/Beach Park, Illinois

First grade is a year of wonder, exploration, learning and community building. Students enjoy a full day of activities designed to teach the basics of reading, mathematics, social studies, science and our Catholic faith. Our first grade teacher is assisted by a classroom assistant and the teacher to student ratio is no greater than 15 to 1.

While students grow in all areas of academics, first grade focuses on phonemic awareness and the skills associated with becoming an independent reader. Students who are already independent in their reading are challenged at their level using more advanced literature.

In addition to the daily classes, students enjoy the opportunity weekly to attend the following: Art, Music, Physical Education, Computers and Music. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Chess Club, Spanish Club and Young Rembrandt's Art Club after school.
