Summer Reading and Relaxing

It was a great school year but everyone is excited about summer!  I hope there will be plenty of picnics, swimming, carnival rides, water balloon fights, and bike rides in the next few months!

Summer is also the time to chill out with a book and read just for fun!  That was the idea behind this year’s Summer Reading Program.  It IS important to keep up with your reading skills, but it is also wonderful to read for fun!  The “free choice” of reading material this year is designed to let you do just that.

If you’re looking for good chapter or non-fiction books, you may wish to consult the Illinois State Awards reading lists posted below.  These lists always include quality literature that is interesting and fun to read.  Check with your local library or Amazon for suggestions.  Or just dig into that bookshelf of Book Fair purchases in your bedroom!

Whatever you choose to read this summer, I hope it is an engrossing, even magical, experience to spend a few hours lost in a book.  This quote hits the nail on the head:

“You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.”   – Paul Sweeney.
