Kindergarten at OLH is a combination of academics and creativity. Students enjoy a full day of activities designed to teach the basics of reading, mathematics, social studies, science and our Catholic faith. Our full time teacher is assisted by a teaching assistant and every effort is made to fully develop the individual talents of each child.
In addition to their daily classes, students enjoy the opportunity weekly to attend the following: Art, Music, Physical Education, Computers and Music. The kindergarten class enjoys an annual trip in the fall to enjoy the change of seasons and is responsible for a schoolwide Prayer Service and celebration of Thanksgiving. During Catholic Schools Week the kindergarten students celebrate "Special Persons Day" by inviting an adult who is important to them to spend a morning at school. It is expected that children entering kindergarten are familiar with their letters and numbers and are able to write their name. Benchmarks for independent reading are tracked carefully and students who are not progressing adequately work with the school's Reading Specialist. |
